A few words about happy endings
I love happy endings. And I love mermaids.
The problem is, those two things rarely go together.
The story of love between a mermaid and a human is one of the oldest and most symbolic motifs in myths and literature. It speaks of two worlds meeting - the spiritual and the earthly, instinct and reason, freedom and the desire for closeness.
In ancient Greece, sirens were half-women, half-birds (only later did the sea give them tails). They lured sailors not for love, but for destruction. Their voices were so beautiful that men would forget the world and follow, consumed by the longing for absolute beauty.
The most famous version, of course, is Andersen’s tale. A mermaid saves a drowning prince and falls in love with him. To be with him, she gives up her voice for human legs. But the prince marries another, and the mermaid, instead of killing him to save herself, chooses love - and dissolves into sea foam, becoming a spirit of the air.
It’s not just a tale of unfulfilled love, but of transformation - of discovering that true love isn’t about possession, but freedom and sacrifice.
Always with a note of longing. Always impossible.
But maybe it doesn’t have to be.
As they say, there are plenty of fish in the sea - and maybe the world has had enough suffering.
From what I’ve seen on National Geographic, there are also beautiful sea serpents - colorful, elegant, gentle. So why not create a different story?

That’s why I sat down at my studio desk, turned on vintage recordings celebrating romantic love, and began designing a series of handmade necklaces about connection - about that fleeting moment of unity when two souls are joined by something greater than themselves.
